Jasmine Scott, My favorite subject Thursday, Oct 30 2008

Hmmmmmm…. I would have to say my Fav. subject is English! Its pretty easy and I like the teacher, she’s cool!  The way she teaches is god also! Some of the stories are boring but she has a good way of breaking them down.  My most challenging subject is chemistry. Its not that its hard its just that it keeps me working 24/7. That class has the most work and the hardest test. those K-types really get me! My lecturer doesn’t explain things too good! I always have to find a way to learn it on my own! The other thing is its at 8 in the morning and I am not a morning person, at all!

I did not like this event! It had nothing to do with Mr. DeBerry, but I couldn’t hear anything. I hope the next one is better!!!

p.s. I did like that poem we read in class!

Jasmine Scott, Various neighborhoods Thursday, Oct 30 2008

Well, Im from the city but its strange that i don’t know much  about every neighborhood. I’ve lived uptown all my life, so i don’t know  much about the westbank, or the east, or downtown.  All the nice houses are in the garden district. Everything around there seems extra clean and well taken care of. The restaurants in the area are pretty upcale. I love Magazine street, wonderful place to shop!!! Uptown is really houses abd nothing else. Most business are located in the CBD ( central business district). This is where i get all my parking tickets, LOL!

All the fun stuff is downtown, and the famou streets like Canal and Bourbon.  SOme people live in the area but not as populated as uptown or the other part of downtown! There is also the east, which I know little about! Its filled with locally owned stores and restaurants. I do love the Donut shop on Downman!

Anyway, i hate to drive around the city because i always hit the potholes(except in the Garden District)!

unfortunately, i missed the movie because I had to work. Some friends told me some things about it. Maybe I’ll get the chance to see it another day.

Jasmine scott, Chp. 1-2 WNOM Thursday, Oct 30 2008

I’m from new orleans so i guess you could say i can relate to the book a little bit. The author does describe things pretty good. All the stuff on their i pretty much know what it is and where it is! he seems to like New Orleans alot, but I feel like he left some things out. I think there is more to the city than what’s described! THe book is a bit boring to me. maybe it doesn’t keep my attention because it’s nothing for me to learn! i know all these things, so I guess it was written more for people who are not from the city( or don’t know much about it).  It also sems a bit repetitive, some of the things he mentions over and over  and over again!

Jasmine Scott, challenges of College Thursday, Oct 30 2008

I must admit I was a litle nervous after high school graduation.  See in high school things were such a breeze i never had to study to hard or pay attention and still made good grades. I know here things will be different. i’m expecting it will be a reality check for me. I hope I can adjust quickly and comfortably! Everyone I know tells me how hard it is when you are a freshman because you’ll be totally lost. I think i feel this way already. It’ s a lot too get used to. Like being more independent. Not expecting the teacher to remind me every time a paper is due or  a homework assignment.

another thing is everyone claim College life is the life! i hear about all the parties and fun things to do, but seems to me i  dont have tme for those things. The workload is sooooooo heavy!!! I had to figure out a better way to manage my time. i guess I was used to doing things whenever I  got ready.

Anyway, I expect college to be a time in my life where I meet life long friends and mature. I expect it to be tough and to make me a stronger individual. So I guess I’ll find out in 2012!

Jasmine Scott on Xavier Thursday, Oct 30 2008

I chose to come to xavier because it is a good school for the sciences. i wanted to major in pharmacy so i picked Xavier because they also have an excellent pharmacy school. Ever since the seventh grade I’ve said I wanted to go to Xavier because I always hear its a good school. It’s also an HBCU, which means a lot to me considering i’m black. I guess its just something in me, IDK! Well, I hope I enjoy my time here and be very successful.

Academic Community Wednesday, Oct 29 2008

It’s pretty hard to say which class is my favorite; every class has it’s pros and cons. I would probably have to say G.Chem 1010 and Calculus are my favorite classes. In G. Chem 1010, Dr. Privett teach things in a sort of fun way. She uses humorous examples to explain the lessons and keep majority of us awake, unlike some of the classes. Anyways, I have to like that class since I have to take it for the rest of my life. As for Calculus, Dr. Kocic is a cool teacher. He’s pretty humorous and is really dedicated to teach. He’ll ask for any questions before class starts to help with any homework or classwork. When he teaches, he makes it sound so simple and if not, he’ll try to make it simple as it can be.

I’m doing pretty well in all of my classes cept English and Freshmen Seminar (keep forgetting to keep up with the blogs). I have a C in both of those classes and B’s in everything else cept Calculus. In Calculus, I got an A average. Most challenging course for me is English. English is really boring to me so I lose concentration when I’m doing any English stuff. I was hoping that since I’m a Chemistry major, I wouldn’t have to take any English courses, but no, I have to take nine credits of it to graduate. Well I should be glad that it’s only nine hours. Hopefully I could bring all of my grades up and set a nice GPA to start off my college life.

Kristin Signater’s Challenges of College Blog Tuesday, Oct 28 2008

Before entering college, I thought that it would be a lot of fun. I thought that while it would still be a lot of academic things, but there would also be time for parties and friends.  Now while all of that is true, I realized that time partying and hanging with friends would not be as much a part of what goes on as I thought it would be.  While it is still a apart of it, academics takes up about eighty-five percent of my time.  Making time for those things will be and has been my biggest challenge.

It is not as easy as it seems on television to balance it all out, especially at Xavier.  As we all know, Xavier is all about academics and not partying.  The work they give is not extremely hard.  They work with you as much as they can to help you understand things better.  it is just that you spend so much time on your school work, that there is not a lot of time to be spent on socializing.  Around here everyone says that the ones who spend to much time socializing will not be here next semester or next year.  Because all of this is said you try to work harder to not to be one of those people that they talk about.

In the end, I hope I will walk across the stage on time, without anything stopping my progress.  I take everything everyone says inconsideration and I hope that I can use that to do the best I can here at Xavier without any distractions.
